A new chapter in the history of Gwardia Wrocław. The club is carrying out its plan and opening another section – this time for tennis. It will become part of a new project that is expected to be a great opportunity for the sport in Poland. Gwardia representatives have ambitious intentions. The team will begin competing in the forBET 1st League at the end of May.
New openings, new opportunities
The Wroclaw club has a specific goal. It wants to quickly find itself at the top of new competition in Poland – LOTTO SuperLiga. At Gwardia, they plan to lay a strong foundation for the club, just as they did with the volleyball and beach volleyball sections.
– Our marketing and business model have proven itself in volleyball. Gwardia is a professional club around which we have built a fantastic community in recent years. We have devoted fans, and when it comes to marketing the club, we set new standards in Polish volleyball. We are also constantly developing more aspects of the club’s operation. In their debut, our beach volleyball players became Polish champions. In the tennis section, we see an opportunity to increase brand recognition and reach a wider group of fans. Tennis is a very popular and beautiful sport,” says Kajetan Maćkowiak, co-owner of the club.
– By developing the tennis section, we will want to replicate the model of building the Gwardia volleyball team. The first tennis team is to create a strong foundation for training children and young people. We are also expanding our marketing offer for current and future partners, strongly expanding the range of promotional activities, thus reaching a different profile of fans,” points outŁukasz Tobys, CEO of Gwardia.
It is worth remembering that the best Polish tennis players of recent years hail from Lower Silesia, and from Wroclaw itself comes Hubert Hurkacz semi-finalist of the last Wimbledon, the 11th player in the ATP ranking.
The goal is to advance
The creation of the tennis Gwardia is closely related to an initiative in Polish tennis, which is the establishment of new competitions. The professional league – LOTTO SuperLIGA is expected to revolutionize the struggle in Poland. The future national champion will receive 700 thousand zlotys, the runner-up half a million. The games will be broadcast by Polsat Sport. The first season will begin on May 29.
To begin with, the clubs will compete in the premier league and its back-up, the ForBET 1st League. Among the teams entered are Agnieszka Radwanska, Lukasz Kubot and Jerzy Janowicz.
– – The entire tennis section is being formed by the Polish Tennis Association’s new project, the Super League, a professional tennis league in Poland. Gwardia has qualified for the 1st League. We have 9 male and female players,” says Kinga Szynklarz, president of the tennis section, and declares: We want to advance to the Super League.
One league match will consist of six singles matches two men’s singles, two women’s singles, and clashes in women’s and men’s doubles. In the event of a tie after these games, an additional, decisive clash in the mixed doubles will be played. The team’s league debut will take place on May 29. At that time, Guardia will face Zlotoryja Tennis Association in an away game. The club will soon present a new logo and announce the team’s lineup.
